William Wrixon Leycester

William Wrixon Leycester, a prominent Cork merchant was the first occupant of Ennismore House was a great traveller and numismatist. The family were serious collectors but evidence largely focuses on William’s passion for collecting currency, tokens and items of cultural significance.
Mr. Wrixon Leycester had an extensive numismatic/library soldat Sotheby’s in 1888. This consisted of a very large collection of coins, medals, tokens and a numismatic library. Today, echoes of Williams’ enduring affection continue to shape the character and atmosphere of Ennismore

William also had a passion for gardening. However, it was Helen Wrixon, who married William’s son Joseph, who lovingly extended and developed the gardens of Ennismore House during the first half of the twentieth century.
Referenced as Mrs. Leycester, the Lady of the Manor, the fruits of Helen’s labour is still evident in our rolling gardens today. We invite you to roam and explore the beautiful grounds, where you will spot native birds and enduring garden flowers from
